Your guest list stays in this browser. It is not uploaded, saved or used for ads or analytics, and files you import are read on your device. Refreshing or closing the page clears the chart, so use “Save project file” to keep working later. The seat finder link carries the names inside the link itself: anyone who has the link or QR code can read the list, so share it only with your guests.
Set up your room
Choose “Desk or bench” for single desks or pairs, or rectangular tables for groups of four to six. Drag desks into rows, a U shape or clusters to match your room. The front of the room is marked at the top.
- Paste your roster, one student per line, or import it from your gradebook as a CSV.
- Press “Shuffle randomly” for a fresh arrangement; list pairs under “Keep people apart” and the shuffle avoids seating them together.
- Drag individual students to adjust for vision, hearing or support needs.
- Print a copy for your sub folder and save the project file to reuse next term.
Random seating chart generator
Press “Shuffle randomly” to give every student a random seat. Each press is a new draw: the order is shuffled with the browser’s cryptographic random number generator, and the chart is redrawn at once. If you list pairs under “Keep people apart”, the shuffle tries up to 300 arrangements and keeps the first one that puts no listed pair at the same desk or table.
- Shuffle again before each unit or each week for fresh seating.
- After a shuffle you can still drag any student to a different seat.
- If there are more students than seats, the extra names stay in the unseated list.
Privacy for student names
The class list stays in your browser and is not uploaded. If you make a seat finder link for students, turn on last initials only.
Common questions
How do I randomize a classroom seating chart?
Add your desks, paste your class list and press “Shuffle randomly”. Each press gives a new random arrangement while respecting the keep-apart pairs you list.
Is the random seat generator really random?
Yes. It uses the browser’s cryptographic random number generator to shuffle the class list, so every arrangement is possible. Keep-apart pairs only rule out arrangements that would seat a listed pair together.
